Dews is a professional waterman and has made a name for himself in stand up paddle boarding, surfing, sailing and surf life saving. His passion and uncomprised motivation has seen one of the fastest growths in performance in the stand up paddle boarding league.
"... With a family of 4 generations of grassroots watermen, whether it be commercial fishermen, professional surfers, sailors & it seemed the ocean was always going to be close to my heart. Being lucky enough to grow up in Maroochydore, Australia I had the opportunity to learn and develop my craft across many different disciplines. Whether it be fishing with my family, racing in surf line saving growing up or spending weekends surfing with mates relished the challenges being in the ocean presented. After winning the u14 QLD state ironman title, I had the opportunity to compete in the Molokai2Oahu paddleboard race as a relay with my dad.
This race was something that I grew up idolising and watching dad, and my cousins compete in each year. So naturally the chance to compete was a dream come true, however I never could predict the impact this race would have had on me. It was there that began my love affair for the challenges of open ocean racing.
Over the last 4 years SUP racing has dominated my life. As one of the fastest expanding sports in the world and recognised as the most competitive physical endurance ocean sport, it's become my obsession to one day become world champion. Over that last 8 years I've grown within the ocean paddling scene from a young grom who was stoked to line up against my idols to now starting to realise the reality of becoming a world champion is within my grasp.
Away from my own sport I'm in the process of studying a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science, while getting the opportunity to have experience within the industry while working at the Ocean Performance Centre, and helping develop the next generation of surfers, swimmers and athletes..."
